Child Protection and Safeguarding:

Parents should be aware that the school is required to take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its pupils. In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, the Headteacher is obliged to follow the Child Protection procedures established by the Derbyshire Safeguarding Children board and inform Children’s Social Care of the concern.

The school has a Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy which can be found on the policies tab under key information.  We use this policy to guide our actions and to ensure that we are keeping children safe by following agreed procedures.  

There may also be times when adults are concerned about children in the community.  Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility so please do act on your concerns.   You can contact:

If you have a concern about the safety of any Etwall Primary School child, you can also contact our school safeguarding team.   During school hours a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) will always be on-site or contactable by phone.  

 

During term-time but out of school hours, an email account is set up to receive any safeguarding concerns from other agencies or from parents.  This is monitored on a daily basis during term-time by the DSLs:

During school holidays, this email account is monitored on a weekly basis by the on-call senior leader.

Safeguarding Link Governor

We are committed to giving our children the skills to keep safe at home and school and often invite in visitors to support this.  PC Bancroft and PCSO Foggy joined us in school in November 2021 to talk to all the children about how they can keep safe.  The youngest children were able to have a look in the police car and try out the sirens.  Older children had an assembly to discuss how to stay safe on the roads and when out and about in Etwall.  
 
The teaching of e-safety and online safety skills are an essential element of our curriculum and we give children the skills to keep safe on line and to be able to deal with any incidences of cyber bullying.  In September 2021 we offered parents the opportunity to join an Online Safety Workshop and we send out an online safety newsletter each month to help parents to keep children safe at home.  The latest versions can be found on our News page.

We want our children to have the skills to challenge gender stereotypes and to recognise that domestic violence is never acceptable.  We recognise that safeguarding from radicalisation is as important as safeguarding from other vulnerabilities and expect all our staff to uphold core British Values. 
 
We are also able to offer Early Help to our families that need support.  We work in partnership with Children First which is a Derbyshire charity.  Children First are able to work with families to assess their needs and then put in a support plan to help families with a whole range of concerns.  Please see our Early Help leaflet below.
