I attended Etwall Primary School when I was a child and continue to live in the local area. My enjoyment of my time at school led me to become a teacher. I am passionate about education and work at a Derby city secondary school as part of the senior leadership team. I believe that every child and young person has the right to a curriculum in which they see themselves reflected, respected, valued and celebrated. I have a young daughter who attends EPS. I have a keen interest in the success of the school and look forward to being able to give something back to the local community by supporting as a governor.

I moved to Etwall from southeast London two years ago to be near family. Although I am now retired, I previously worked in a large inner London primary school as a Deputy Head and Inclusion Manager. I later moved on from teaching to work as an SEND Officer for the local authority.
Having had contact with Etwall Primary School through a friend's son, I was extremely impressed with the welcome and support he and his family were shown, together with the caring ethos which was clearly evident throughout the school. I would like to be able to give back to the school and to the wider community and believe that becoming a governor is one way in which I can do this.

My name is Erica Thomson and I’ve just joined the governing body of Etwall Primary School! This is extremely exciting for me because I taught at Etwall for nearly 8 years, working with Mrs Bradley - I absolutely loved being a part of EPS because it is an inclusive, caring and encouraging environment which helps everyone thrive. Unfortunately, ill health finally made me concede defeat, but luckily for me I’m still able to be a part of the EPS family.
So, between walking my dogs in Amber Valley where I live, and gardening, as well as looking after my two daughters, I’ll still be able to take part in the decision making which makes Etwall such a great place to be!
I look forward to being part of something truly splendid once more!
